Connecting your account

Before you start, your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account — the two types Instagram calls Professional. You can switch in the Instagram app's settings, under the account type options; it takes about two minutes and is reversible. No Facebook Page is needed.

Then add Instagram from your Accounts page. You'll approve the connection on Instagram itself, and your account comes across with it. If the connection is refused, the account type is usually the reason — check it in the Instagram app and reconnect.

Personal Instagram accounts cannot publish through Greenwood Social, or through any other scheduling tool. Meta does not offer an API for them.

What you type, and where it shows up

Instagram posts have one text field — the caption — and no title. If you're sending the same post to YouTube or TikTok as well, your Title is used there and simply skipped here. The one exception: if you leave Content empty, the Title becomes the caption so the post isn't published blank.

Title
Conditional

No title field. Used as the post text only when Content is empty.

Content
Optional

The caption.

max 2,200 characters

Tags
Optional

Appended as #hashtags to the caption.

max 30 hashtags

Link
Not used

Not used — URLs in a caption are not clickable on this platform.

Privacy
Not used

Not used — Instagram posts are public to whoever can see your account; account privacy is set in the Instagram app.

Media requirements

Images per postup to 10 (at least 1)
Image formatsJPG
Max image size8.0 MB
Image dimensionsat least 320×320. Anything larger than 1080×1350 is resized down for you.
Video formatsMP4, MOV
Max video size1.0 GB
Video lengthat least 3 seconds, up to 15 minutes
If your file doesn't fitWe convert it for you where we can — images become JPG and video becomes MP4. Files we can't bring within these limits are reported before the post is scheduled, not after.

Instagram accepts any aspect ratio between 4:5 (tall) and 1.91:1 (wide). Images outside that range are reported before the post is scheduled. All video is published as a Reel.

Per-post options

OptionWhat it doesDefaultApplies to
Enable CommentscommentEnabledAllow users to comment on this postOnImage, Video
Share to FeedshareToFeedShare Reels to main feed (not just Reels tab) for wider visibilityOnVideo

These are the options Instagram exposes to partner tools through its API. Platforms often test new settings inside their own app long before opening them to tools like ours — when that happens the option simply isn't available to us until they publish it.

Scheduling

Schedule Instagram posts for any future time — see Scheduled Posting for how times, timezones, and cancellation work.
